Nous sommes a Gjoa Haven, nous partirons demain matin quand nous nous reveillerons. Ocean Watch lui est parti ce matin pour Pond Inlet, ils essaieront de passer par le detroit de Bellot si possible et nous donneront des informations sur la glace. Ocean Watch continue son voyage tout autour des Ameriques, parti de Seattle ils y reviendront apres avoir fait le passage du Nord Ouest et le Cap Horn. Bon voyage Mark et a l’equipage, nous resterons en contact par e mails.
Gjoa Haven est une ville de 1100 habitants. Le nom Inuit, Ursuqtuq, signifie ou il y a beaucoup de graisse (pour les lampes). Dans une baie tres bien abritee Roald Amundsen restat ici les deux hivers 1903 1904 , il fut le premier a reussir le passage du NW apres un autre hiver passe dans l’Est de l’ile Herschell. Les gens d’ici nous ont dit qu’il y a beaucoup d’ours polaire un peu plus nord mais ici ce sont principalement des grizzlis maintenant. C’est un tres bon endroit pour la peche aux ombles arctiques. We are in Gjoa Haven, we’ll leave tomorrow morning when we’ll wake up. Ocean Watch sailed this morning bounding to Pond Inlet, they will try to go through Bellot Strait if possible and send us ice informations. Ocean Watch continue her voyage all around Americas, started in Seattle they will come back in the same place after the NW passage and Cape =0 AHorn. Gjoa Haven is a town on King William Island, there is about 1100 unhabitants. The inuit name of the town, Ursuqtuq, means where there is a lot of grease . In a very good sheltered bay Roald Amundsen stayed here two winters in 1903 1904, he was the first to make the North West passage after another winter spent in the East of Herschell Island. People here told us there are a lot of polar bears a little bit more north but here mainly grizzlis now. It’s a good fishing place for arctic chars. Bye Thierry
